This is my response to this week’s photo prompt by “Friday Fictioneers”.

A Scottish castle seemed like a perfect escape. Her vision of the perfect romance was merely a chimera, a vain hope. Todd was never supposed to be… They spoke of soulmates and forever love, but it all felt like a mirage.
Tricky was the only constant in her life.
“Tricky, stop. Don’t dig there.”
Tricky didn’t.
Under all that muck was a tiny, warped box with just a note wrapped in red lace with flowers. The flowers matched the ones in the bush exactly.
Dear John,
Under the crescent moon, I will wait for you at the turret.
Love,
Mabel.
P.S.: I like castles, so I took the liberty of writing a longer version of this story. Feel free to read it here https://mindful-echoes.com/2026/10/01/under-the-crescent-moon/
